R25 1 10 1 1 2(Stack)x2 Nickel Over Pass(2) Jet 5
We handle jet motion by firing down the SS.  Nicholoson takes a little bit of a wide angle, but keeps his outer arm free and has contain.  Tackles slant left, Foster is a little late to react.  Brown (-0.5) takes an inside angle to the WR in an attempt to make a play.  This worked well last week for him, not so much on this play.  Foster funnels back to help.  Ionanndis (+0.5) with the hustle.
R30 2 5 1 1 2(Stack)x2 Nickel Even Run Pin and Pull 3
Kerrigan rips under a crack.  The guard shows no respect to Ionanndis’ speed and cuts off Foster.  They tried to reach Ionanndis with a center, who doesn’t get the block but Ion is too slow to reach the RB to the outside.  Foster (-1) is late to react and gets sealed inside.  WR gets away with holding on Fuller.  Otherwise, this play would be blown up.  Norman (+0.5) cuts the tackle and DJ (+0.5) makes the superman tackle.
R33 3 2 1 1 2(Stack)x2 Nickel Even Pass(1) Drag/Texas 11
Fuller (-0.5) has Cupp in man and gets his ankles broken.  Foster (-0.5) (coverage -1) has no presence with his zone drop and cuts off Breeland.  DJ and Norman are man to man on the other side.  Nicholson has deep coverage.
R44 1 10 1 2 2x2H 3-4 under PA Pass(1) OZ TE Flat 2
This was our signature play last year.  Everett plays robber, DJ is deep.  Galette and Anderson are the OLBs.  They fake the OZ and run 3 leveled drag routes.  A better throw probably gets more yards but it’s off target and allows Foster (+0.5) to catch up and make the open field stop.
R46 2 8 1 1 2(Stack)x2H Nickel Even PA Pass(1) PA Jet Flat Inc
This play is testing our zone responsibilites which we struggled with last week.  We fail miserably on this one as well.  TE on a go gets left alone as the WR takes the CB with him on a drag.  Nicholson (-1) (coverage -2) comes in hard on a blitz thinking it’s another jet sweep.  TE is all alone but Goff doesn’t have time since Nicholson’s blitz reaches home.  DJ might have been responsible for picking up that TE.  But it looks like the rookie got a little too exicted with the backfield motion.
R46 3 8 1 1 3×1 Nickel DE Split Pass(1) Go/Slant Inc
Brown on the blitz gets picked up by the RB.  Nicholson is manned up on the outside and they test him deep.  Norman is manned up on Cupp inside.  Bust in coverage as Fuller makes an ‘under’ call but nobody is there to pick up the crosser.  Looks like Foster (coverage -1) shouldve dropped.
Ionnandis and Allen are you starting Nickel DTs.  McGee-Hood-McClain were the 1st line in for the 3-4.  Brown was to the boundary and they put the TE to his side.  Stack WRs were always to the field.  Helped with crack block angles.  Nicholson in for Everett on the first 3 plays.  Smith-Kerrigan-Anderson-Galette is our NASCAR line.  All kinds of busted coverages bailed out by bad QB play and pressure.

Brown (+1) stacks behind Allen, stalks and gets off his block to make the tackle.  Allen (-0.5) got moved quickly off the line.  Ionnandis (-0.5) sticks to the LOS but gets moved over and sealed by the double.  Foster (-1) is slow to react and catches a block 4 yards downfield.
R8 2 4 1 1 2Hx2 Nickel Split PA Pass(1) PA Split Zone Post Inc
Foster blows up the Hback and Brown stalks the RB.  DJ (-0.5) and Brown (-0.5) (coverage -1) cover dirt and the post is wide open behind them.  They were baited by the PA then waited for releases into the flat but id rather they cut the difference between the Flat and Post. Ionnandis (+1) (pressure +1)  Bad throw saves us.
R8 3 4 2 1 2HB, 2×1 Nickel Even Pass(1) HB flats, WR Cross 2
Fabian Moreau in at SS/Dime.  Moreau and Breeland seem to have crossers, Brown (-1) (coverage -1) leaves the flat to his side uncovered.  Breeland usually keeps man on those crossers so he’s probably the bust.
We are trying anybody for that SS/Dime spot.  Moreau, Nicholson and Everett have all gotten a shot at it.  Coaches clearly not happy with Everett’s performance last week.  More zone busts and bad QB play and pressure bail us out again.

R28 1 10 1 2 2(2tight)x2 3-4 under Run Pin and Pull Fum
Anderson and Galette are the OLBs with Galette to the open side.  Anderson (+1) holds the edge and forces the run inside and takes the 2nd puller off his path.  McGee (+0.5) squares up to the pin blocker and works him down the line, Hood (+0.5) does the same to the center.  Foster (+0.5) meets the 2nd pin blocking TE and squares him up.  Brown got caught up backside.  Norman (+3) with FF.
Anderson and Galette are straight up OLBs in the 3-4, with Kerrigan and Smith playing hand in the dirt DE in Nickel formation.

Norman manned up on the TE side, Bree and DJ on the 2 WR side.  Everett has single high.  McGee (-1) loses contain on a twist with Smith.  Foster (-2) appears to have flat coverage and that means he carries the wheel but he drops off onto the underneath receiver (coverage -4).  Everett (-1) is covering dirt, Brown (-1) is covering dirt.  Everett and Brown could have bumped their coverage toward the wheel.  Brown (+0.5) for that hustle.
W6 1 G 1 1 2×2 Nickel Over Pass Out and In 5

Touchdown.  Last year we played a lot more zone, this year its man to man on the outside and that helps with the deep In routes but flat zone coverage responsibilities are suffering for it.

Hood (-1) is late getting set, can’t slow down the double and gets cut.  Brown now has a OL in his face and gets sealed out, tried to cut underneath it.  Pretty agile OL.  McClain (-1) tries to shoot his gap and under cut for a TFL but whiffs in the backfield because Gurley is too fast.  That leaves an OL for Foster (+0.5) to deal with, he rips under him and slows down the RB.  Smith (-1) is late to set up and sets a loose edge.  Foster gives him a talking too after the play.
R43 2 4 1 2 2Hx2 3-4 under PA Pass(1) PA Split Zone Go/Cross Inc
Norman (+0.5) injured on the play.  Throw was behind, otherwise that’s a completion.  But Norman was in the vacinity and made an effort
R43 3 4 1 1 3(bunch)x1 Nickel Split Pass(1) RB Cross Flat 28
The perfect play call as Foster was blitzing and Brown had to follow the RB across the field (coverage -2).  That’s an impossible task with crossers coming at you from the Bunch formation.  Dunbar in, Breeland takes over Norman’s side.
W29 1 10 1 1 2(stack)x2 Nickel Even Pass(1) Out/Hook 17
(coverage +1) first great throw from the Goff for the game.  Brown (-0.5) misses the PBU, Fuller (-1) and Nicholson (-1) whiff their tackles.
W12 1 10 1 1 2(stack)x2 Nickel Even Pass(1) TE Wheel (Scramble) 1

W11 2 9 1 1 3×1 Nickel Even Pass(2) #3 In 1
Foster (+1) (coverage +1) walls of the primary route and knocks the WR on his ass.  Smith (-0.5) loses contain
W10 3 8 1 1 4(RB stacked)x1 Nickel Even Pass(2) RB Screen -4
Foster injured on the play.  Fuller (+2) picks up where he left off last week and erases all outside screens. (coverage +1)

R18 2 17 1 1 2×2 Nickel Split Run Trap 6
Allen (-0.5) gets sealed on his upfield rush.  Understandable since its 2nd and 17.  Foster (-1) takes the wrong gap in hopes of making a play.  Brown gets off his block–never would’ve happened last year–DJ on the tackle.

R7 1 10 1 1 3(bunch)x1 Nickel Even Run IZ 5
Ionnandis seems to be playing 1 gap.  Allen (-1) is 2 gapping and peeks in the wrong gap and gets sealed out.  LBs get no help from the big guys up front.  Foster (+0.5) is able to come off his block and make the play.  Fuller (-0.5) is sealed out by Cooper Kupp.  I didn’t know Kupp was 205 pounds.  Damn.
R12 2 5 1 1 2(stack)x2 Nickel Even Run Jet 0
Miscommunication between the TE and T leaves Smith (+1.5) unblocked and he gets the TFLish.  Breeland beats his block, Torrian Gray has really coached up these CBs on beating outside blocks.
R12 3 5 1 1 3×1 Nickel Over LB stack Pass(1) Corner/In 28
Brown on the RB, Foster and Breeland take Hook zones.  TE to the single side is manned up by a safety.  Norman (-1) falls on his cut, Breeland (-2) could’ve widened out his zone coverage but misses his tackle anyways.  Nicholson (-1) takes a horrible angle
R40 1 10 1 1 2(stack)x2 Nickel Even Pass(1) TE Seam 24
(pressure -1) LBs in the hook zones.  DJ (-1) (coverage -1) has man to man with the TE and Safety help over the top.  TE blows right by DJ, as Swearinger opened up his hips and drifted to the flat initially.
W36 1 10 1 2 3(Bunch2tightH)x1 3-4 under Run IZ 18
Line slants left and the back cuts it the other way.  Anderson (-2) crashes inside way too hard and gives up edge support.  Smith and Kerrigan never do this, I doubt he’s coached to do this.  Breeland (-1) gets beat to the outside, holy shit Gurley is fast.
W18 1 10 1 2 2×2 3-4 under Pass(2) RB Flat 18
Anderson has flat, Foster and Brown have Hooks.  NOBODY TAKES THE OTHER FLAT.  (coverage -4)  Galette rushes the QB, he might be at fault.  We got 4 deep with 1.5 covering dirt.  Brown (-1) needs to bump over his hook zone to 86.  Breeland (-2) misses his tackle.
Touchdown.  DTs in Nickel are lining up in even fronts, forcing the runs to go inside.  Hard to run outside zone against that front, more importantly hard to run Power which is what the Giants gashed our Nickel with last year.  Breeland didn’t seem comfortable with the hook-zone coverage assignment.  DJ just completely screwed up his man to man assignment.  Another busted zone where nobody understood flat coverage.

We respond to the tight bunch formation by bumping Foster over.  Norman is to the outside, Fuller and DJ over top and Foster inside.  Breeland in man to the single side.  Kerrigan and Smith are side by side to the open side.  This way Foster deals with a TE instead of a free releasing OL like earlier.  Also the WR don’t have good blocking angles.  Foster gets under the TE block and the line slants.  Gurley cuts it in the opposite direction.  Brown (-1) can’t come over top quick enough, Damn Gurley is fast.  DJ is left covering 2 ocean sized gaps.  Fuller (-1) isn’t exactly setting an edge of any sort.
R32 2 3 2 1 I-Form 2×1 3-4 under PA Pass(1) PA Iso Post/Cross 9
Post is open but Smith (+2) (pressure +1) (coverage -1) forces the dump off.
R41 1 10 1 1 2Hx2 Nickel Even Run Split Zone 3
McClain and McGee are the DTs.  Foster sneaks up looking to replace Smith on the split zone block.  Smith takes on the Hback but RB cuts it back where McGee and Kerrigan (+0.5) have slanted inside to force the bounce.  Brown (+1.5) comes over top late but has the speed to do that, he might have been baiting the RB.  Everett (-0.5) with a questionable angle
R44 2 7 1 1 3(bunch)x1 Nickel Over Run IZ 6
McGee (-1.5) had his double occupied and Brown was free to make the play but McGee tries to do too much and loses gap control.  Gurley cuts it back to where he was.  Had McGee stayed put Brown and McClain (+1) had the gaps on either side covered.  Foster (+0.5) screwed with the double team to cover his gap.  Kerrigan sets the edge, Smith (+0.5) 2 gaps the TE.
50 3 1 1 1 2(stack)x2 Nickel Run IZ 5(-15)
Nobody is set.  McGee (+1) does a valiant effort at just bulldozing the line.  McClain (-1) comes over top and whiffs at the RB.
R40 1 10 1 2 2Hx2H 3-4 under Run OZ 8(+3)
Foster inches close to the line for OZ.  Anderson (+0.5) sets the edge, McGee (-1) gets blown off the line as his double works up to Foster.  Gap between Hood and McClain (-1) as the later is late off the ball.  Brown (-0.5) fights under his seal.  Fumble, Norman (+2)
W49 1 10 1 2 2Hx2H 3-4 under Run Power H/IZ 4
Power blocking with TE kick out and Hback pulling through, eh maybe more IZ as they don’t double Allen.  Hood (-0.5) gets doubled and pushed off the line, back follows it.  Allen (+1) is 2 gapping and him and Foster initially attack the same gap.  Allen just chucks the tackle to the ground and Foster fills in behind that.
W45 2 6 1 2 2Hx2H 3-4 under Pass(1) Post/Out/Cross Inc
Last play looked like quarters, this is C3.  Foster has the TE to his side.  Breeland and Everett manned up.  They bring a crosser and Norman follows it.  Earlier we blitzed on this play and the flat was open, this time Foster stayed in coverage. (coverage +1)

W17 1 10 1 1 3Hx1 Nickel Even Run Jet Motion IZ 3
Ionanndis (+2) gets doubled and knocked a gap over but fights back through and meets Foster (+1.5) who has to fight under an OL block for the stop.  Kerrigan (+1) set a strong edge that helped constrict the gap Foster had to cover.
