Run Defense vs The Cowboys
Last time these teams faced off Ziggy Hood struggled against zone blocking:
Hood has been playing his best ball the last few weeks so maybe that issue (which looks like a footwork issue to me) has been fixed or at the very least Manusky has schemed a way overcome it.
Spaight was the other sore spot especially against zone reads:
He has had a ton of snaps since then to iron out that issue.
Key Match Ups:
ZIGGY HOOD vs ANY TYPE OF RUN BLOCKING
In our previous match up Dallas was able to finish their last two drives with 13 runs. If that happens again, our path to victory narrows.
MARTRELL SPAIGHT vs FOLLOW THE BALL
Pass Defense vs The Cowboys
The good news is Dallas has not been able to score since Zeke has been out:
- With Zeke: 138 rush YPG and 28 PPG
- Without Zeke: 99 rush YPG and 7 PPG
The decrease in rush YPG does not show cause for the crater their scoring offense has fallen into. PFF might have some insight as to what happened:
With All-Pro LT Tyron Smith not playing due to injury, the Cowboys turned to Chaz Green. Green had been benched earlier in the season from his left guard spot, and so it was perhaps not a shock that he was completely out of his depth at tackle. He surrendered four sacks, a hit and three hurries before finally being put out of his misery and benched in the second half, but he also had very little help and was badly exposed by the game plan.
Prescott was sacked a total of just four times, however was pressured often as the Cowboys sorely felt the loss of their All-Pro LT Tyron Smith for a second consecutive week. Alfred Morris had a great evening on the ground, but with the Philadelphia lead surging late in the game, Dallas was forced to abandon the running game while subsequently, the Eagles defense shut down their passing attack.
With the excellent Zack Martin forced from the game, it was time for another backup to fill in along the line and [Right Guard] Looney promptly led the team in hurries allowed with four on his 26 pass-blocking snaps.
So their back ups have been functional in the run game but struggle with pass protection. As of this writing LT Tyron Smith (Back/Groin) and OG Zach Martin (concussion protocol) are listed as “limited participants” in practice. RT La’el Collins did not practice.
Key Match Up:
OFFENSIVE LINEMAN vs THEIR INJURIES
If either Tackle can’t go, Preston Smith and/or Ryan Kerrigan should feast on the back up.
- No backup offensive lineman enter the game
- Spaight is still confused by Zone Reads
- Hood gets pushed around at the line
PLAYOFF HOPES STAY ALIVE IF:
- Kerrigan and/or Smith are getting to Dak
- Dallas has to play catch up in the 4th quarter
- Sean Lee doesn’t play
- Kerrigan has another multi-sack game
- Dak tests Norman deep
- Everett gives up a big play in man coverage
I never felt a game this season depend on an injury report as heavily as this one does.
