W21 1 10 1 3 3Wingx1 3-4 under Run(1) Tight Zone 5
Tight end trio starting from the inside is Davis, Paul, Reed.  Right away Davis has to deal with a slanting line inside.  He keeps his guy away from the RB, Williams (+0.5) handles his man slanting inside, Long (+1) and Lauvao (+1) double from the nose to Mike with each guy sealing out and creating an alley for Kelley (-0.5) to cut into but he can’t plant and squeeze through, instead he runs into Long.  (Cousins)(PassPro)(PlayerRoute)
W26 2 5 1 2 2Wingx2(Tackle Over) 3-4 over Run(2) Tight Zone Read 4
Kirk reads the safety and there is a bubble route on the backside.  Tackle over alignment has Moses and Williams to one side and Davis and Reed on the Wing side flanking Scherff.  Alignment gets Davis with no lineman over him, this would help to alleviate the stress of slants inside and let Davis focus on blocking 2nd level players.  Long and Scherff double and get movement but Scherff (-1) can’t pick up the 2nd level and then tries too come off the double late and runs into Kelley (+1) who was able to juke the linebacker.  Scherff needed to cut his loses on that and stick with sealing out the double.  Working back doesn’t help anyone.  Davis (+0.5) is able to lock onto the 2nd level defender and seal out.
W30 3 1 1 2 Empty 3(2stack)x2stack 3-4 under Pass(0) (Man Free) Go/Out 8
Coverage is supposed to be Man free but the double stack empty formation confuses assignments and both safeties are now playing over top of stacks.  Both TE from the stack release outside and the coverage doesn’t adjust.  Rules called for inside/outside/over top and they didn’t have an answer for the double outside release (Cousins +1, Pro +1, Playcall +1)
W38 1 10 1 2 3(2WingWRH)x1 3-4 under Run(1) Tight Zone 2
Crowder motions to Hback position and the DE thinks a crack block is coming so he shifts inside and tries to blow up any type of Pin and Pull.  Davis looks like he handled the slant inside, Williams (+1) caves in the line and there is a potential for a vertical lane in between those two blocks but Kelley understandably does not trust Davis to hold his block and bounces it outside of Davis.  He jumps back inside of Crowder and burrows his head down to pick up a couple of yards.  Too much jumping around for my taste (Kelley -0.5)
W40 2 8 1 2 2Hx2H 3-4 under Pass(1) (Cover 3) Outs 8
Out route from a tight split against a cover 3 Corner. (Cousins +1, Pro +1)
W48 1 10 2 1 I-Form 2×1(tight) 3-4 under Run(2) FB Insert Will 5
Long (+1) and Lauvao (+1) double to the Mike and Paul (+0.5) seals out the Will.  Long comes off the double, targets and seals  the Mike while Lauvao reaches the lineman and there is a small window between Lauvao and Long.  Kelley (-0.5) hugs his path too tightly to Lauvao and runs into him slowing down and negating a chance at a bigger play.
L47 2 5 1 2 3×1 3-4 OLB Apex Pass(1) (Cover 3) Smash 6(+2)
Quick hitch against a C3 Corner. (Cousins +1, Pro +0.5)
L38 1 10 1 3 3Wingx1 3-4 under Run(1) Tight Zone 4
Long and Lauvao (+0.5) double up to the Will.  Paul (+0.5) and Reed (+0.5) cave in the End up to the safety.  Davis has to flow with the slant inside and that forces the bounce.  Everything is blocked except for the Corner and kelley (-1) cuts away from him and into a linebacker.  Williams was on him for a minute but didn’t expect the run to cut up to his left.  Kelley should be choosing to run over CBs not LBs.
L34 2 6 1 3 2Hx2H 3-4 under Pass(1) (Cover 3) PA SZ Max Pro Post/Drag -11
7 block 5 and lauvao (-1.5) and Scherff (-1) get beat.  Lauvao doesn’t kick out far enough which as a guard I guess he doesn’t get much practice with that.  Scherff can’t keep Donald to his inside.  He even had help from Moses. Cousins had nobody open but with another full second the post was open for six.  That’s asking for a lot of time against this elite pass rushing unit (Pro -1)
L45 3 17 1 1 3×1 Nickel Split Pass(2) (Quarters/C2) WR Tunnel Screen 21
Reed is on the inside of trips formation.  Moses (+1) gets in the way of the DB enough to form a seal.  Ryan Grant (+1) seals out and stays with his man the whole way.  Scherff (+1) logs and pancackes the end.  Lauvao (+1) paces and positions himself to seal off the inside which has two guys trailing him.  Cousins placed the ball perfectly (Cousins +0.5)
L24 1 10 2 1 I-Form 2×1(tight) 3-4 under Run(1) FB Insert Will 2
linebackers are shifted over to the strong side.  Williams has a wide split.  Williams and Lauvao kicks out lineman who were slanting that way anyways, Lauvao (+0.5) kicks his man out about 5 yards wide.  Long-Scherff double but Long (-0.5) can’t come off in time to pick up the stunting Mike LB and he blows up the A gap and the run.  Kelley is slowed down by that penetration and Paul is either kicking out for an A gap run, or can’t control his man to seal him inside.  Linebackers stunted and blew up the play.
L22 2 8 1 2 3×1 3-4 Okie Pass(1) (Cover 3) Comeback/HB Circle Inc
Cousins was locked onto Niles Paul who had a Cover 3 corner.  Cousins was expecting a hitch adjustment but Paul never made it and instead ran the full comeback route.  Cousins comes off that late and looks for CT but pass is deflected.  Would’ve liked to see cousins scan the field a little quicker when Paul didn’t make the adjustment, he had Crowder working the middle of the field and he looked open (Cousins -0.5, Pro +1, Paul Route -1)
L22 3 8 1 1 3×1 Nickel Over Pass(2) (Quarters/C2) Post/Slant/Trail Inc
Cover 2 eliminates Reed to the single side.  Post was taken away by the quarters zone.  CT has to stay in to block.  Pryor drops it (Cousins +0.5, Pro +1, Pryor Route -1)
FG.  Lauvao can maul guys in the run game but his pass pro has struggled since the 2nd half of last week’s game.  Davis is still struggling with the inside slants.  Long developing 2 man routes against this pass rush isn’t the best idea we should probably scrap that.  Kelley’s jump cutting is screwing up the timing of him hitting the windows that open up.  Also he avoided a one on one with a 178 lb DB.

W35 1 10 1 3 3WingHx1 3-4 under Run(1) Counter G 19
Only the guard pulls, backside tackle–Moses–tries to knife through the line to the Will backer.  He doesn’t get there and goes to plan B which is to seal off any backside pursuit.  Double team is Williams (+0.5) and Lauvao (+0.5) who may or may not be working to the will LB.  Moses really tried to reach for him so I think the double team’s only job is to double the hell out of the End lined over top of them and cave him in, which they do, and any LB pick up will be icing on the cake.  Scherff (+1) pulls and log blogs the force defender.  Lauvao can’t quite get off the double to take the Will but the RB is racing downfield by that point.  Backside: Davis now has a nice kick out angle instead of having to handle the DL slant which has been killing him for 2 weeks.  Reed (+0.5) reaches and takes out the Sam/SS.  Paul (+0.5) motions and takes H Back positioning behind Moses.  This allows Paul to handle the DL slant with a better angle and leverage.
L46 1 10 1 2 2Wingx2(WRH) 3-4 under Run(1) Counter 21
Old fashioned Counter with both G and T pulling this time.  Moses (+2) pulls through and cleans up Paul’s block and chases the Safety out the play.  Scherff (+1) with a thick kick out block.  Long looks to have mis ID’d the guy he should seal out.  Lauvao downs on the Nose.  Williams, Davis and Paul (-0.5) triple on the End and cave him in but nobody seals out the Mike.  Paul had a clear shot but stayed on a triple team instead of working to the second level.  Williams got washed down by the end–smart defensive play–and that took Davis with them, Mike worked back over top. Paul never got a full block on him.
L25 1 10 1 2 2Wingx2 3-4 under Run(2) Wide Zone 3
Williams (-0.5) doesn’t help Davis out enough as he jabs the DL on his way to the second level.  Davis had a long way to go before he could reach that guy, Silverback needed to stay in longer.  DL falls off of Lauvao but not until after the RB has cleared.
L22 2 7 1 2 2Stackx2 3-4 under Run(1) Pin and Pull 9
Pryor (-2) motions over and has crack down with Crowder.  CB over Pryor reads Counter and takes himself out the play.  If Pryor makes his block this could be a touchdown.  Scherff (-1) can’t handle his reach block–DL had outside alignment on him–and gets shoved back into Long’s Pull and that path is destroyed.  CB taking himself out the play and CT’s speed salvage this play.  Also Moses (+1) who cleans up Pryor’s block and drives the end down the field which affords CT (+1) the edge.
L13 1 10 1 3 2Wingx2H 3-4 under Run(1) Outside Zone 1(+5)
Offsides.  Lauvao stays in a beat too long to help out Williams at the line and loses the race to his fast flowing linebacker target.  Scherff is expecting an LB run through and when it doesn’t happen he has to recollect himself and is too late to seal out the LB.  Offsides on that LB though so no minus for Scherff on that read.  Davis (-1) reaches the end who slants inside and blows him off the line which blows up the RB path and  auses a log jam at the line which causes Moses to lose his man.  Paul could’ve stayed in to help Davis but Davis did overtake the man plus it looked like the force defender was working outside and Paul needed to leave in order to reach him.
L8 1 5 1 2 2Wingx2(Tackle Over) 3-4 under Run(0) Tight Zone Read 1
We ran a Tight Zone Read the last time we were in this formation.  Same thing this time except instead of reading the safety Cousins reads the Linebacker.  Davis (-1) thinks Kirk is reading the End and tries to bypass him, Davis failed to read Scrape Exchange.  Lauvao (-1) loses inside leverage on his one on one block that that’s what utimately blows up the play.
L7 2 4 1 1 2Stackx2 3-4 under Run(1) Pin and Pull 7(TD)
Ran the same play from the same formation 3 plays earlier.  Pryor (+2) realizes he’s blocking force which should be Williams’ job and pulls off and targets the pursuing playside linebacker.  That was beautiful.  Williams (+1) pancackes the force and those two blocks are all it takes to spring CT free.  Donald was expecting this exact play and still couldn’t stop it.  He fired the gap Lauvao had and we pitched it right past him.  Also Reed (+1) anihilated the OLB who looked a bit lost.  The safety was not ready for CT’s (+2) speed
Touchdown.  Two deadly Counter plays back to back and a Pin and Pull that hits the edge–and should’ve been a touchdown if not for Pryor’s blocking.  All three runs didn’t ask Davis to handle an inside DL slant.  CT willed the both Pin and Pulls to work with his speed.

L30 1 10 1 2 3Hx1 3-4 OLB Apex Run(2) Wide Zone 4
Backside: Scherff (+0.5) and Moses (+0.5) execute a textbook overlap block.  Reed (+0.5) is able to seal the apex OLB inside and give Perine an edge.  Lauvao (-1) gets beat inside and has to log the DL and instead takes out his own guy in Long.  Perine is able to hit the edge and unfortunetly Wiliams wasn’t expecting the run to break that wide and can’t stay latched on to his guy downfield.
L26 2 6 1 2 2Hx2 3-4 under Run(1) Counter H 3
Guard and Hback pull.  Lauvao and Reed (+0.5) kick out with Reed getting just enough to create a skinny alley.  Double team is Moses (+1) and Scherff (-1) with Moses caving in Donald and working up to the second level.  Scherff can’t maintain outside leverage on Donald however and gets pushed back into Perine who cuts inside of reed’s block and runs into Scherff.
L23 3 3 1 1 2Stackx2 3-4 under Pass(1) (Cover 3) Pick/HB Flat 15
Late HB motion takes away the Pin and Pull look and also confuses the Safety as he motions way over and loses track of CT (Cousins +0.5, Pro +1, Playcalling +1, Crowder Route +1)  Crowder delivers the pick that springs CT wide open.
L8 1 8 1 3 3Wingx1 3-4 under Run(1) Tight Zone 4
We’ve run tight zone twice already from this formation and the DE slanted inside of Davis (+0.5) in anticipation to stop it from hitting up the middle, LB also slants inside of Paul (-0.5) and both Davis and Paul seal in their guys but Paul can’t hold on.  Reed (-1) fails to kick out or else the RB has an alley.  As it stands Kelley is able to jet past the arm tackle from Reed’s man and barrell into Paul’s guy and scrape out 4 yards.
L4 2 4 1 3 3(2Wing)x1 3-4 under Pass(1) (Cover 3) Fade Inc
Cousins doesn’t give Doctson a chance for a jump ball.  Doctson doesn’t really move the DB inside either.  (Cousins -1, Doctson Route -0.5)
L4 3 4 1 1 2×2 Goalline Pass(0) (Man Robber) Smash Inc
CT and Crowder switch spots.  CT runs the corner route on the Smash and Kirk expects him to bend it outside more.  That’s what you get when you ask a RB to play slot WR.  (Playcalling -1)
FG.  Piss poor playcalling in the Red Zone balanced out by a great playcall which picked us up 15 yards.  Pin and Pull from the stack formation has been a nightmare for the Rams in the first half.

W25 1 10 1 2 2Wingx2(WRH) 3-4 under Run(2) Counter 9
We ran counter from this formation last time.  Crowder motions over to cut down backside pursuit.  Williams (+1.5) caves in the DE with a minor assist from Davis and Scherff (+0.5) kicks out with movement.  That opens up 2 lanes for Reed’s man to block, he picks the outside lane because Moses leads through that one, Kelley (+1) cuts it to the inside lane.  Off the double team, Vernon (+0.5) was able to ID the Will and wall him off.
W34 2 1 1 2 3(2wing)x1 3-4 under Run(1) Wide Zone weak 2
Kelley injured on the play.  Williams (+0.5) gets good movement to create a running lane except Lauvao (-0.5) behind him can’t control his man and that kills the play.  Long took a false step upfield and couldn’t reach the playside LB at a good angle in time but we pick up the yard regardless.
W36 1 10 1 2 3×1(tight) 3-4 under Run(2) Wide Zone weak 2
Perine (-0.5) stutters instead of cuting and going upfield in part because Davis (-0.5) doesn’t define his block.  Williams (+1) gets the first level defender off balance for Lauvao (+0.5) to wrap around and reach before he heads up to seal out the LB.  Long has a hard time climbing to the second level and is late to slow down his 2nd level block.
W38 2 8 1 2 2Wingx2 Nickel Over Pass(1) (Man Free) 4-verts -12
Reed breaks off his route after reading the cushion.  Either Scherff was supposed to slide over or CT needed to stay in for a block.  Line was sliding to the side CT was releasing so it looks like they really wanted him in the flat and his check was to the side that didn’t blitz.  Scherff (-1) looks to have mid ID the blitzer and slide in instead of picking up the LB (pro -1)
W26 3 20 1 1 3×1 Nickel Split Pass(1) (Cover 3) HB Screen Inc
Scherff, Ineliglbe downfield, declined.  Play sniffed out, predictable playcall.  (Playcalling -1, Pro -1) Williams (-1) got beat inside and that forced Cousins to hold onto the ball and that led to the penalty.
Punt.  Pass pro was awful even on the screen play.  Running counter to the wing side helps Davis handle the inside DL slant.

W25 1 10 1 3 3wingHx1 3-4 under Run(2) Power G 0
Defense had this sniffed out pre-snap once Paul went in motion (playcalling -1).  DL shifts inside of Moses to cut off his path to the linebacker and Scherff (-1) gets cut and the defender makes a hell of a play after to get the stop.  Moses has next to no shot in making this play, not sure if Paul is supposed to cut up field if they slant inside like that.  But this overlap block is doomed from the start.
W25 2 10 1 2 2stackx2 Nickel Okie Pass(1) (Cover 3) Smash/HB dumpoff 10
Linebackers fake a blitz and then scramble back to carry the slot vert.  CT exploits the open space underneath.  This play explains how we were supposed to handle the double A gap blitz from last week.  If this was the strategy then Long left too early vs Philly.  (Cousins +0.5, Pro +1)
W35 1 10 1 1 3×1 3-2-6 Okie Pass(1) (Palms Free) Arrow/Slant 4
Basic single high beater combo. (Cousins +1, Pro +1)
W39 2 6 1 1 3×1 Nickel Over Run(1) (Cover 3) Draw 61(TD)
CT (+2) reads Scherff’s block and adjusts twice based on the leverage. Scherff (+1) initially oversets but thanks to CT’s movement and a good grab he was able to seal out.  Lauvao (+2) lets the nose shoot the gap and quickly sets up to seal out Donald.  Long (+0.5) lets the DL run himself out the play.  Reed (+2) locates his target downfield and seals out.  Ct reads that block too.  (playcalling +1)  Somehow Gruden anticipated the DL gap shoot.  We did run a screen out of this formation earlier, maybe that was the bait.
Touchdown.  Amazing block reads by CT and once again the speed gets the TD.  Aggressive LB play on the dumpoff and aggressive DL play on the Draw helped.  Playcall timing was perfect on the Draw.  CT had the safety one on one like Kelley did a couple of times last week.  What CT did with it was way better.

Already ran this play twice from the same formation and coming out the half when they had 15 mintues to go over everything we ran we run it again?  (Playcalling -1). Donald slants away from the down block and chases the pullers.  We weren’t anticipating his speed I guess.  Lauvao (-1) fails to kick out and Paul (-0.5) can’t latch onto the LB.  Davis handled the downblock, that’s one way we can help him to handle the slants.

L48 1 10 1 2 2Hx2H 3-4 under Run(1) Power T 1
TE motions over to help with backside block as Williams pulls.  Scherff (-1) falls inside and doubles the nose instead of working with Moses to the Will.  That leaves the Will a one on one with the RB.  Maybe Scherff is supposed to protect inside at all costs but then it’s an impossible path to the will since Moses is blocking down.
L47 2 9 1 2 2Wingx2(Tackle Over) 3-4 under Run(1) Tight Zone Read 11
Paul never makes it to the safety and instead just kinda hangs out.  Third time we ran this play from this formation.  Cousins is reading the EMLOS.  Scherff (+1) caves in the DE and Long (+0.5) picks up the run through by the LB.  Davis (+1) stays on his man long enough for Perine to get some momentum through the hole.  Damn Perine is SLOW.
L36 1 10 1 2 3(2Wing)x1 3-4 under Run(2) Power G 3
Scherff (+1) mauls the DL inside and caves him in so bad the Will has to stay back to guard against a RB cutback.  Moses (+0.5) torques and seals his man inside.  Lauvao (-1) with a slow pull step and causes a log jam at the mesh.  He has to dive after his target and can’t get a clean seal out.  Paul (-1) whiffs on the Will, Perine (-1) takes to many steps just cut up inside of Lauvao and Paul and get what you can.  it’s a Power play for god sakes, just put your nose down and run it like one.
L33 2 7 1 2 2×2 3-4 OLB Apex Pass(1) (Cover 3) Arrow/Slant Inc

Paul motions over to H back, Nsekhe is in there with Davis and Paul.  Perine (-1) doesn’t sell the counter motion at all he just marches in place and that generates zero false steps by the LBs.  We ran outside zone last time out of this formation, a hard sell could’ve moved the LBs.  Moses (+0.5) caves in his side.  Nsekhe (-0.5) makes a call to Davis (-1) who doesn’t understand his responsibility after the line shifts.  Classic counter rules state Nsekhe and Davis double to the will but Nsekhe has wrong hat placement and Davis once again can’t handle the inside slant and is held up on his way.  Its possible Nskehe would’ve gotten to the Will if Davis took over but it’s hard to tell.  That screw up leaves the Will open to make the play, Perine could’ve bounced it ouside but thats playing with fire this close to the goaline.

Holding on Williams (-1).  Rams are selling out with these formation matchups, this time they ignore the second tight end and send in 4-2-5 personnel.  Williams let himself get too far inside his man and had to hold.  Play action outside zone from shotgun makes much more sense.  Now Cousins doesn’t have his back turned to the line and can see if a DE comes in free.  Makes the perfect throw and decision (Cousins +1, Pro -1)

First trap run of the season?  Scherff (+0.5) gets inside position on the LB, Long and Williams kick out, perfect play call (Playcalling +1).  LB read the trap pull as a Power pull and ran himself out the play.  Offensive line just took everybody where they were already going.
W34 3 6 1 1 3Bunchx1 Nickel Even Pass(2) (Cover 2) Verticals/Snag 8
Huge misread by Cousins as the safety played some type of robber or Sky coverage, and the other safety was playing C2 to the boundary which allowed both verticals to get open quickly.  Cousins doesn’t see it and checks down to the snag route underneath (Cousins -2, Pro +1)

We’ve run tight zone read every time we lined up in this formation.  Lauvao (+0.5) seals the DL inside long enough to create a second hole on the inside of the double team.  Davis (+0.5) does the same on the other side.  Scherff (+0.5) and Long (+0.5) move the DL with their double and Perine (+1) presses the inside hole to move the LB before cutting it upfield to the touside of the double.  Then does the same thing to get Davis’ man to move outside.  If Scherff could’ve come off quicker this play could have gone for double digit yards.
W47 2 5 1 2 2Wingx2 3-4 under Run(1) Wide Zone Weak Read 10
Not sure who Cousins is reading or if he even is.  Rams are selling out for wide zone and get too far up field.  Long (+1) seals and drives out and Scherff (+1.5) comes off his double to latch onto the LB and create an alley.  Perine is caught from behind by the OLB, a speedier back could’ve broken this one.
L43 1 10 1 2 2Hx2 3-4 under Run(2) Counter 3
Rams expect Counter and insert the backside LB and slant the line to cancel out the double team.  Paul (-1) is late out his stance by one and a half steps and can’t reach the Mike.  Scherff (+1) logs the force defender, the ouside would’ve been there if Paul wasn’t sleeping at the wheel I think the late blitz caught him off guard.  Williams (+0.5) gets movement on his downblock even though he lost Lauvao’s help.  Lauvao tried to come off his block and get Pauls’ man which would’ve been +2 worthy.
L40 2 7 1 2 3×1 3-4 under Pass(1) (Cover 3) C3 Hitch 23
Pryor with the YAC, but it was a check to the C3 hitch.  (Cousins +1, Pryor Route +1)
L17 1 10 1 2 3(2wing)x1 3-4 under Run(1) Tight Zone 1
They slant from the outside, Doctson (-1) needed to take a tighter split because he can’t get there in time.  Davis (+0.5) is able to run his guy out the play.  Moses with good movement but him and Scherff can’t find the LB.
L16 2 9 1 2 3(2WingWRH)x1 3-4 under Run(1) Tight Zone 5
Ryan Grant understands how to block this play.  This time he aligns behind the Wing and no slant is running through.  Paul (+1) doubles with Davis to the LB.  Moses (+0.5) with a seal and the ball bounces outside the TE double.
L11 3 4 1 1 3Bunchx1 3-4 under Pass(2) (C2/Palms) Flat/Corner 11(TD)
Grant fakes inside to hold the safety and the Corner opens up.  (Cousins +1, Pro +1, Grant Route +1)
Touchdown.  Some master play calling on that drive.  Trap play worked, and play action Outside zone from Shotgun was a much needed upgrade.  WR blocking is noticeable between Doctson and Grant.
