E44 1 10 1 2 3H(2tight)x1 3-4 under PA Pass(1) Cross/Post Inc
Very first play attacks our newly minted FS, thankfully Norman (+2) (coverage +1) is there to erase anything damaging.  Swearinger (-2) looks to be out of position on this one as he bites on the crosser route underneath that had Breeland over top with Shazor and Mason underneath.  Norman had outside leverage to funnel the post to the FS.
E44 2 10 1 2 3(2tight)x1(6OL) 3-4 under PA Pass(1) Cross/Flat -2
They pulled Ertz for a 6th OL and then decide to pass, nobody gets fooled.  Smith (+2) gets a one on one matchup with the 6th OL and does what he’s supposed to. (coverage +1) (pressure +1)  McGee (+1) works inside and flushes Wentz into Smith.
E42 3 12 1 1 3×1 Nickel Split Pass(2) Cross/Yakety-Sax 58(TD)
Allen (-1) and Smith (-1) miss on the sack (pressure +1).  Wentz had forever, it’s a little hard to ding coverage but it looks like Swearinger lost his man.  Breeland and Norman are manned up.  Fuller has flat coverage and passes off.  Brown has Flat/HB/Wheel on the other side.  Foster and Everett have hook zones.  Foster (+1) gets really good depth on his drop, that was a huge problem all last year.  Swearinger (-2) is the deep safety who they have been testing on this drive.  He loses the deep guy with eyes stuck in the backfield.  Kerrigan (-1) couldn’t beat his man, looked to just play contain for some reason.
Touchdown.  11:28 remains 1st qtr. 0-7.  Swearinger tested early.  Every play had the side with 1 WR run a baiting crosser route.  Safeties are splitting robber/deep coverage duties, hard to get a read on rhyme and reason.  Foster is the field LB, Brown to the boundary.  In the 3-4: Kerrigan is lined up away from the TE, giving him a shorter path to the QB, while Smith has taken over the TE side (opposite of last year.)

W48 1 10 2 1 2(stack)x2 Nickel over Pass(1) HB Screen(pen) 1(-10)
Nickel formation in response to a 2 back set, we’re treating Sproles as a WR.   This play looks sniffed out as soon as Sproles goes in motion.  DJ (+1) creeps outside and establishes force like it’s a wide run play.  Breeland (-1) looks confused on his responsiblity and hesitates instead of screaming upfield inside of DJ’s block.  Foster (+1) redirects and makes the play from behind.
P43 1 19 1 1 3(bunch)x1 Nickel even Run Wham 6
Ionnandis (+1) keeps Foster clean and Allen (+1) the same for Brown.  This play should be dead but Kerrigan (-1.5) gets way to far upfield and loses contain.
P49 2 13 1 2 3(bunch)x1 3-4 under Pass(2) Corner/Flat 6
They hi-lo’d Smith.  Looked like 3 deep 4 under rush 3.  Norman in lock coverage.  DJ might be in robber, not sure.  Brown with amazing coverage downfield on a seam route (coverage +1)
W45 3 7 1 1 3×1 Nickel DE Split Pass(2) All Curls 10
Fuller (coverage -1) lines up at the first down marker then proceeds to back up and give more cushion.   It’s pitch and catch (pressure-1).
W35 1 10 1 2 2×2(6OL) 3-4 under Run OZ 1
Hood (+1) washes the center into the guard and causes a pile allowing McClain (+1) to come off his block and penetrate for the TFL.  Galette (-0.5) sets a soft edge and gets turned upfield out of the play.  Foster pokes his head in his gap to force the run outside, Brown (+0.5) sheds and looks to be ready for anything coming outside.
W34 2 9 1 1 3×1 2-4-5 PA Pass(1) End Around Screen
Run action up front with the buck sweep.  Really pathetic throw by Wentz that set this up.  Fuller (+2) blows by his blocker, hustles and gets the quasi-FF, Foster (+1) is there to make the FR, he doesn’t bite on the pulling guards–a problem last year with Compton.  Ryan Anderson blows up his TE block inside, to where the sweep action was going.
Fumble.  6:29 remains 1st qtr.  0-7.  Brown to the field on the first play (2 RB formation) to Sproles’ side.  And 3rd play, 3×1 set out of 12 formation where he carried the TE seam route.  DB coach Torrian Gray has coached up our DBs on beating WR screen blocks.  His college pedigree against spread teams has payed off in that department.

P13 1 10 1 1 2(stack)x2 Nickel even Run OZ 4
Everett (+0.5) gets under the TE cut off block and takes away cut back.  Brown (+1.5) sheds the guard and makes the initial hit, Allen (-1) overruns the play and gets sealed, giving a cutback.  Ionnandis (+1) takes a double and frees up Foster behind him, Foster meets Brown at the RB.
P17 2 6 1 1 3(bunch)x1 Nickel even Run Wham 5
Allen (-1) doesn’t realize they are whamming him and lets the DL get a free release to Foster.  Ionnandis (+0.5) slows up his man and lets Brown run free.  Brown meets Allen and Everett at the RB.  Smith (-0.5) gets a little too wide and upfield leaving a gaping hole for Foster to cover.
P22 3 1 1 3 3(3tight)x1(6OL) 3-4 over Run IZ -2
we shift the line to strength and leave DJ covering the backside B gap, the RB attacks his gap.  McClain (+1) takes a double to keep DJ free, DJ still can’t really make a play at the line–or doesn’t want too.  Kerrigan sets the edge.  Hood (+1) takes on a double and Brown (+1) is free to shoot his gap and get the TFL.  Foster (+0.5) is able to clog up his gap playside.
Punt.  Crowder muffs it.  They are attacking our DTs from the blindside, Ionnandis is handling it well all game with quick recognition.  Brown is shedding blocks that Compton could never dream of doing and its making a world of difference.  Biggest upgrade from last year is Brown.

Foster (+1) (pressure +1) on a delay, evades the RB block but then whiffs on the QB, Foster (-0.5).  Cover 3, Everett locked on the TE, Brown and Kerrigan have Hook-zones. (coverage +0.5).  Kerrigan gets proper depth on his drop.  Also better than Compton last year.  He eventually loses his man but I can’t expect a pass rusher to cover for this long.
W32 2 3 1 2 3(2tight)x1(6OL) 3-4 under Run Power 4
McClain (-1) gets washed down the line by the double, the back cuts it behind him.  Foster is a little slow to recognize the play but hits the guard at the line.  Everett (-1) gets blindsided by the WR block and his gap would’ve been wide open.  Smith (-0.5) has a TE and can’t squeeze that gap tighter.
W28 1 10 1 2 2×2 3-4 under PA Pass(1) TE post-corner 14
Brown to the field, he’s on a blitz.  Anderson and Galette at OLB spots, we drop Foster and Anderson as the TE.  Everett (coverage -1) gets worked by the TE route.
W14 1 10 1 1 3(bunch)x1 Nickel even Run Wham 6
They try to wham again with Allen (-1) in there.  He holds the DL for a beat this time, but can’t defeat the trap block and gets sealed.  Baby steps.    Ionnandis (+1) keeps Foster (-1) clean and then engages the wham blocker.  Foster flat out whiffs and misses a TFL.  Anderson (-0.5) can’t hold the edge providing a cleaner cut back lane for the RB.  Everett (-1) gets washed down by a WR block.
W8 2 4 1 2 2(tight)x2 3-4 bear PA Pass Slant/WR Flat 5
DJ gets sucked in by crack block motion and recovers fine but the WR makes a Willie Mays catch (coverage -1).
W3 1 G 1 1 2×2(WRH) 3-4 under Run IZ Read 2
Last year, Barry would’ve had us in a nickel.  Smith is the read man, he forces handoff.  Ionnandis (-0.5) gets doubled and can’t hold.  Allen (+0.5) comes off his block to make the tackle.

Brown to the field, Foster on the blitz.  Man beater is called to defeat the man coverage our safeties have been putting on the tight ends.  Pressure doesn’t have time to get there, Norman with no press or bump (coverage -1) plus the blitz left our underneath coverage thinned out.  McGee with no interior push maybe (Pressure -0.5)?
P20 1 10 1 1 2x2H Nickel over Pass(1) clear out/drag Inc
Brown to the boundary to the Bunch formation.  TE motions and Brown and Foster flip, Brown to the field.  He blitzes as DJ locks onto the TE.  Fuller has to come over top DJ’s coverage at a questionable angle due to poor response time (coverage -0.5), ball is overthrown.  Blitz did nothing (pressure -1)
P20 2 10 1 2 3Hx1 3-4 over (wide) Pass(2) Corner/Flat Int(TD)
Cover 2 with Brown having deep middle responsibility.  Line is spread out to give OLBs a better angle to the flats.  Foster with hook.  We rush 3 (pressure +1) and the pocket gets constricted.  That’s speed to power rushing, thanks Tomsula (McGee +1) (kerrigan +2)
Touchdown.  7-13.  8:39 remains 2nd qtr.  Adjustment made on the corner/flat combo from earlier leads to a pick 6.  Eagles try to isolate our interior DBs: nickel and safeties, with man beater combo routes.

P37 1 10 2 2 2×2(6OL) 3-4 under Run OZ 2
Smith (+2) okie-dokes the 6th OL and ends this play.  Hood (+0.5) is able to control the center at the LOS and allow Brown (+0.5) to pop him as the guard overtakes Hood.  McClain (-1) gets knocked off the LOS and McGee (-0.5) gets sealed out of his gap leaving a huge cut back for the RB.  Smith saves the first.  Everett (-0.5) gets sealed by the TE
P39 2 8 1 2 3×1(tight)(6OL) 3-4 under Pass(1) Chop Block -15
Norman in man, Everett deep, Foster walls off the TE, DJ takes any out routes.  (coverage +1)  Twist up front with Kerrigan (+2) inside, taking the HB and RT with him and drawing a penalty.  Brown (+0.5) free to run outside and get the sack.
P24 2 23 2 0 2×2 3-3-5 Pass(1) HB Screen 15
(coverage -2) Fuller is the only guy in position as he takes outside leverage but nobody is there to squeeze the tunnel from the inside.  Brown and Smith are lined up at safety depth, wtf.  Foster and DJ are covering the same area which had no threat except a late releasing blocking HB.  Norman gives Brown an earful which  makes me think he’s lining up wrong.
P39 3 8 1 1 2×2 Nickel under Pass(2) Sack -7
4 under, 2 deep, rush 5.  (pressure +1) Perfectly timed blitz by Brown (+2) and he sucks up 2 blockers, Allen (+1) loops and takes 2 blockers as well.  Ionnandis (+1) has a direct path on his stunt to the QB.

Brown to the boundary HB side, Foster walls off the TE, forces the hook.  Everett and Breeland double the WR, Brown on the HB.  Fuller funnels to DJ (-2) (coverage -1) who inexplicably bites on the TE hook.  Fuller (+2) (coverage +1) makes a play on the ball.  I can’t tell if that is coached or just really bad coverage duty from DJ.
P25 2 10 1 1 Pistol 3×1 Nickel split Run OZ 0
Kerrigan (+2) fights off the Tackle’s block and gets the stop.  I’m not sure what the blocking scheme here is, C and PSG combo and have no 2nd level defender.  I don’t think the BSG was supposed to reach Brown (-0.5) so easily.  Allen (-0.5) gets sealed out his gap, there was a huge cut back if Kerrigan doesn’t make that play.
P25 3 10 1 1 2×2 Nickel Split Pass(1) In/Flat 12
Norman vacates his third as his guy crosses underneath.  I haven’t seen a coverage scheme that calls for this.  The flat is uncovered and the HB would’ve gotten a TD if Wentz saw it.  DJ loses inside leverage on the TE.  (coverage -2).  Either Kerrigan or Norman was responsible for that flat, and I’m leaning towards Norman.  (pressure -1)  It might’ve even been DJ who was supposed to bump over to the flat and Smith and Foster took Hooks.
P37 1 10 1 1 2×2 Nickel Split Pass(2) Dig Inc
Cover 3.  3 underneath with Everett as robber.  Norman (+1) (coverage +1) gets the PBU.  Fuller with flat, Foster needs more depth on his drop as he sees a crosser underneath, they were high lo’ing his zone.
P37 2 10 1 1 3×1 (TE Boundary) Nickel Even Pass(1) Hooks 4
Foster to the field where they got 3 WRs, yikes.  TE to the boundary, covered by Smith and DJ.  Kerrigan and Foster both drop back, with foster walling off the #3.  DJ takes away the TE route and that’s Wentz’s 2nd read.  (coverage +1)  Breeland and Brown come in, Smith and Kerrigan drop back.  Allen (-1) (pressure -1) gets thrown out his rush lane and Wentz has a clear run lane.
P41 3 6 1 1 3×1 (TE Boundary) Nickel Split Pass(2) Hooks 10

FG.  10:42 remains 3rd qtr.  Under Barry, the zone responsiblities were much more defined.  This year we are doing more exotic looks and drops, it’s paid off with a pick 6 but also a few missed assignments that led to chunk plays.  Bust from Brown and poor coverage technique from Foster and Breeland.  They fixed the Norman problem by having him stay in his third if the WR vacates his area.  Norman was either being a rebel in the first half or had weird coverage rules.

Sproles up against Kerrigan (coverage -1) that’s just a bad formation.  We rush 3.  Brown is tasked with deep middle coverage, but would’ve been a bigger help underneath.  I’d rather rush Kerrigan and have Brown stay in the Hook zone, but as it stands we give up 13 yards.

Kerrigan and Brown drop in their zones underneath.  DJ has single high, man to man outside.  , Foster (+1) blitzes (pressure +1) and gets Wentz moving.  Probably saved a play because I think Everett got worked by the TE on a seam/go route and DJ is looking at Norman’s side (coverage -0.5)  LBs dropped deep enough to take away the drag route by Ertz.  Foster and the LB zone drops save this play.

TE in motion shows man coverage with Everett.  Block down step down rules in effect for Smith (+1) and Foster.  Hback is confused and can’t decide who to block.  Brown (+1.5) comes down fast and the LT can’t reach him in time.  LT closes Brown’s original gap and Brown goes one over essentially filling 2 for 1.  Allen gets moved off the line but Brown is there to fill in.  Ioananndis (+0.5) holds his block.  Brown kept everett free but I’m not sure what Everett is doing with that.
P26 2 10 1 1 3Hx1 Nickel Pinch Pass(2) Go Inc
Cover 3, 3 under with Robber.  Rush 4.  Foster is matched up with a WR so DJ is on top of that.  That leaves Norman without deep help.  But what is Everett doing…he’s robber but nobody is running underneath routes.  Someone blew something and it looks like Everett (-2) for not recognizing the route and Norman (-1) for getting beat that badly.  (coverage -3)

Punt.  6:51 remains 4th qtr.  Peters being out shows on the run blocking.  McGee looks to be Just A Guy at this point.  He’s not strong enough for doubles but he’s also not going to destroy our run defense and get blown off the line.  He’s operating at the floor of expectations for a 341 pounder but not below.  After having to watch Pot Roast for a season I’m thankful for that.  Brown is such an upgrade over Compton.  He might struggle a bit in zone drop positioning but thats coachable.  He has the speed to run with the seam routes and is a run defending maven.  Dunbar played more physical press while filling in for Breeland.

R44 1 10 1 2 2x2H 3-4 under PA Pass(1) OZ TE Flat 2
This was our signature play last year.  Everett plays robber, DJ is deep.  Galette and Anderson are the OLBs.  They fake the OZ and run 3 leveled drag routes.  A better throw probably gets more yards but it’s off target and allows Foster (+0.5) to catch up and make the open field stop.
R46 2 8 1 1 2(Stack)x2H Nickel Even PA Pass(1) PA Jet Flat Inc
This play is testing our zone responsibilites which we struggled with last week.  We fail miserably on this one as well.  TE on a go gets left alone as the WR takes the CB with him on a drag.  Nicholson (-1) (coverage -2) comes in hard on a blitz thinking it’s another jet sweep.  TE is all alone but Goff doesn’t have time since Nicholson’s blitz reaches home.  DJ might have been responsible for picking up that TE.  But it looks like the rookie got a little too exicted with the backfield motion.
R46 3 8 1 1 3×1 Nickel DE Split Pass(1) Go/Slant Inc
Brown on the blitz gets picked up by the RB.  Nicholson is manned up on the outside and they test him deep.  Norman is manned up on Cupp inside.  Bust in coverage as Fuller makes an ‘under’ call but nobody is there to pick up the crosser.  Looks like Foster (coverage -1) shouldve dropped.
Ionnandis and Allen are you starting Nickel DTs.  McGee-Hood-McClain were the 1st line in for the 3-4.  Brown was to the boundary and they put the TE to his side.  Stack WRs were always to the field.  Helped with crack block angles.  Nicholson in for Everett on the first 3 plays.  Smith-Kerrigan-Anderson-Galette is our NASCAR line.  All kinds of busted coverages bailed out by bad QB play and pressure.

Foster blows up the Hback and Brown stalks the RB.  DJ (-0.5) and Brown (-0.5) (coverage -1) cover dirt and the post is wide open behind them.  They were baited by the PA then waited for releases into the flat but id rather they cut the difference between the Flat and Post. Fabian Moreau in at SS/Dime.  Moreau and Breeland seem to have crossers, Brown (-1) (coverage -1) leaves the flat to his side uncovered.  Breeland usually keeps man on those crossers so he’s probably the bust.
We are trying anybody for that SS/Dime spot.  Moreau, Nicholson and Everett have all gotten a shot at it.  Coaches clearly not happy with Everett’s performance last week.  More zone busts and bad QB play and pressure bail us out again.

Touchdown.  DTs in Nickel are lining up in even fronts, forcing the runs to go inside.  Hard to run outside zone against that front, more importantly hard to run Power which is what the Giants gashed our Nickel with last year.  Breeland didn’t seem comfortable with the hook-zone coverage assignment.  DJ just completely screwed up his man to man assignment.  Another busted zone where nobody understood flat coverage.
